Meet Priti Nemani aka

The Boss Lady’s Lawyer

Don’t Call Me Pretty.

My name is Priti (pronounced “Pree-Thee”), and I am The Boss Lady’s Lawyer.

I won’t bore you with my career highlights, but I do want to share my story with you. In 2016, after 8 months of marriage, I left my new husband who refused to support me in my efforts to foster what was quickly becoming a booming transactional law practice in the heart of Chicago. I knew how to be a good lawyer, but I didn’t know how to run a business in a practical way. I didn’t know how to meet clients or create referral relationships. I had no idea what went into running a small business beyond knowing what services I could offer.

So, I tried everything. I went to events hosted by wonderful organizations, gave out my cards, did everything I thought I was supposed to do, but something felt amiss.

I was not networking in a way that was true to myself.

As I grew my law firm, I slowly learned how to network in a way that honored my whole person, not just my attorney self. I encountered the questions that overwhelm every new business owner: legal and tax questions, where to find clients, how to network, how to set up a business banking account, how to market online, how to build relationships, how to create an online presence. Fortunately, I cobbled together a community of badass sisters from a variety of professions and backgrounds, and these women were, and remain, my business support system, my sounding boards, and my sharpest (and kindest) critics.

While my law practice (Nemani Law) continues to grow as we serve clients with business, real estate, or estate planning legal needs, it became apparent to me a year ago that I needed to do more to support my fellow sisters in business.

It was in the course of working with a stream of brilliant female entrepreneurs as they worked to set up their own businesses, while mentoring several professionals in my free time, that I realized that I needed to do more to support my fellow businesswomen.

And, then The Boss Lady’s Lawyer was born.

The Boss Lady’s Lawyer reflects on the entrepreneurial experience from the lens of a woman of color leading the charge in hopes of empowering fellow businesswomen to honor themselves and find their power. TBLL is not just about the law or business. It’s about empowering women to find and grow their power. It’s about giving women of color a voice in a world that wants to keep us in the category of “Other.” It’s about giving wings to the brilliant dreams of the female hustle.

It’s about being here for you, and I assure you that I am here for you.

Congratulations to you as you embark on whatever your next journey is. Stay strong, stay powerful, stay honest to your whole self.

Yours, In power -

Priti
